Active Recovery Winnipeg was launched on July 27/2025 and has since grown to be Winnipeg’s best kept secret for sobriety and wellness. Many participants enjoy having a program in the evening to attend, as many members are working full time. Active Recovery Winnipeg serves as a support for those waiting to attend in-patient rehab, as well as those managing their recovery in the community.
When struggling with addiction, many individuals look for community services that provide the structure and support of in-house rehabilitation centers. For some, leaving work or their family is not an option, so they utilize outpatient services. This comprehensive program also offers individual counselling, and additional groups for emotional regulation and family members.
Participants are screened for eligibility based on location and their placement on the stages of change. Individuals who are contemplative, preparation or action stage of their recovery find Active Recovery Winnipeg to be an invaluable resource.
Group size has grown to twelve core participants, providing inspiration for new members joining. Continued learning is one of the biggest principles in Active Recovery Winnipeg, and there are certain topics that are better to learn in a group setting. Vicarious learning is what makes group therapy so beneficial to those achieving sobriety. It gives you something you cannot get from individual therapy. You see real people make changes in their lives, providing a sense of hope.
This group provides affiliation, as we all play a role in supporting each other’s recovery.
Active Recovery Winnipeg meets regularly in the community. This year we have celebrated recovery at the Winnipeg Art Gallery, Museum of Human Rights and the Leaf.
